Wedding gifts nowadays can be anything from the traditional dinnerware sets and bedding through to the more modern televisions and games consoles. More modern gifts are slowly inching their way into wedding lists as many couples, having lived together before being married find that traditional gifts are no longer required.

Items such as kettles, irons and towels are becoming increasingly passe at weddings in favour of items that have more perceived worth to the couple that has it all. My brother would b a prime example, he has lived for many years with his now wife, they were living together before they were married and hence did not really need any of the typical homeware items. His wedding list included a games console and surprisingly somebody bought him one, whether this could be deemed as a gift for both bride and groom however is questionable.

That said, the games console was not the only item they received as a gift, there were some traditional items on the list and that continue to be on peoples lists despite the modern practise of living together before being married. These wedding gifts include a well known set of orange cooking saucepans that are notoriously expensive but are well worth the money, another is high quality dinnerware sets that are put on wedding lists to be saved for special occasions such as Christmas, birthdays and of course wedding anniversaries.

Additionally while people are now living together before marriage it is evident that traditional homeware style wedding gifts are in high demand. For example, there are many couples out there that make do with inferior pieces for their home in the knowledge that the day they get married they can then receive high quality, once in a lifetime products that help to refresh the home rather than set it up.

These trends highlight that even though couples now live together for some time before they are married there are items out there that are out of reach unless getting married. Ultimately traditional wedding gifts ultimately still have a large part to play in the formulation of a wedding.

Finding the right gift for the men in the wedding can be a little trickier. Before you give up and resort to a gift card, review this guide for finding the perfect groomsmen gift.

The Role of the Groomsman

Though they’re often usually observed clowning around during the entire wedding preparation process, groomsmen actually have responsibilities. They are there to stand by the groom and to make sure that he doesn’t pass out during the ceremonies – literally. After all, for the average man, the sacrament of matrimony is a gargantuan step.

Indeed, a groomsman lends his friend, the groom, the support and encouragement that he so desperately needs. Being a man, a groomsman may have reservations about marriage and letting go of a close friend to wedded bliss is not at all easy. But the fact that he’s standing there in his tuxedo, being supportive is enough to reassure even the most commitment-phobic groom. It’s an act that should be greatly appreciated and can thankfully be done so with the groomsmen gifts.

The Right Groomsmen Gifts

It’s a common fact that it’s notoriously hard to shop for a man. Imagine shopping for 3 or 4 groomsmen. It’s nothing short of daunting. Shopping for groomsmen gifts, however, can be easier than expected. As long as you know the groomsmen and know exactly what they can appreciate, you’re on the right track.

Most people opt to purchase matching groomsmen gifts for the whole entourage. By giving identical groomsmen gifts, you’re making sure that nobody is left out and everyone is treated fairly.

The Real Gift

Groomsmen gifts can be purchased anywhere, as long as you use your imagination. Visit specialty shops and stores that cater to male clientele to get ideas. You can also try shopping for groomsmen gifts online. There is a score of online shopping websites that provide ideas for groomsmen gifts.

One thing for certain is that you definitely want your groomsmen gifts to be thoughtful, useful, and memorable. You want to make sure it is something they can use in their life and treasure always, as a reminder of their role in your special day. One great way to make it personal is to personalize the gift with their name or other such wording. For example, you could have a pocket watch that is engraved with their initials or full name. You could go a step further and engrave the item with a special message or the date of your marriage.

There’s a list of traditional wedding anniversary gifts that should be given each year. Although many couples find these traditional items a little dull, there’s still a lot of “old fashioned” couples that follow this list on an annual basis. Whether you’re a modern couple or an “old fashioned” couple, you have to admit that some traditional wedding anniversary gifts are a little odd. If you’re confused by our term of ‘traditional wedding gifts,’ we’re referring to a traditional gift list that many couples follow on an annual basis.

For instance, according to this traditional list, a newly wed couple’s first year anniversary gift should be…are you ready? Paper. Well, that’s simple enough. We’ll take money! If only men read into things like us women do. Instead, traditional men usually opt for cards, magazine subscriptions, personalized journals, engraved albums, and memo pads. Sounds a little boring, doesn’t it? If you’re snoring at the idea of those gifts than you’re definitely more of a contemporary person. Nevertheless, you can always give or receive a gift certificate as a traditional first anniversary gift. It’s paper, and you can purchase anything you want with it. Now that doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

Despite many couples’ admiration of these traditional gifts, we advise modern couples not to get caught in the traditional gift trap. While that may sound harsh, we realize that the times are changing. If paper didn’t sound like an odd enough gift to you, try the second year anniversary gift of…cotton. Yes, cotton. You can almost see the scenario unfold before your eyes. “Just what I wanted, a pillow!” Yikes. Sometimes being non-traditional has its advantages. There are no guidelines to follow. Anything and everything is open for consideration as a gift.

An excellent anniversary gift idea is a photo album. While it may not sound very appealing, consider a solid finished wood album with your family name engraved upon the cover, or “our family memories.” The album doesn’t have to contain photographs. It can be a scrapbook of your finest memories. Ticket stubs from years ago when you and your spouse were “dating,” a token from your wedding, images of your children. You can fill an album with anything. Just remember to be creative.

There’s a number of gifts that can say “I love you” on your anniversary. Roses, cards, chocolates, and jewelry are all gifts that express remembrance of your special day. But liven it up a little! Try wrapping the gift yourself. Add something funny to the card. Show your spouse that it wasn’t a purchase which required little effort. It was something that you thought about in advance. Presentation is a very important aspect in gift giving.

Forget about paper, cotton, and traditional gifts; unless of course, you want to receive a box of Q-Tips for your anniversary. That’s a scary thought, isn’t it? But here’s the point: There’s not supposed to be a set of gift related rules! Anniversaries are meant to be celebrated, not dreaded. Use your imagination and surprise your spouse every year. Buy or make something that you know your spouse will adore. It’ll show that you’ve put some thought into your gift. Remind them why they fell in love with you, and they’ll do it all over again.
